If You Do A Lot of THIS... Don.t Expect A Lot of THAT... 😮❗

If You Do A Lot of THIS... Don.t Expect A Lot of THAT... 😮❗

Ever have to deal with methodical, plodding, detail-oriented — 'don't see the big picture' — people whose goal (seemingly) is to blather and prove how smart they are?

The meeting started late because HE (our Chairman Richard) wanted to wait until EVERYONE was in the boardroom and seated — even though we'd had a quorum for over half an hour. George and Irena were tardy; no one wondered why. Richard glared at them and went through roll call, although THAT was redundant; some of us sighed.

He refused to acknowledge a motion to approve the previous meeting's minutes; two extracts were missing from our copies. Instead of reviewing the missing pages, he insisted on reading all eight — just in CASE, there were other omissions.

Before we could vote on accepting the minutes, Dottie left the room to answer an emergency call from her son; and Bill and Steve were summoned to put out a 'fire' with their TOP client. We still had a quorum, but rather than vote, the chairman, waited for all of them to return — which they did, about six or seven minutes later.

After the vote, he read the agenda line by fricken line, despite the fact it was the same plan we'd had for the previous six months — with one new addition.

Finally, we got to the meeting's main item. Richard got up and used his 'privilege' to share with everyone a lengthy article he'd read — in The Globe and Mail — but unfortunately, he couldn't recall the intricate details of what the author's conclusions were. We all looked at each other around that giant table and just rolled our fucking eyes.

At that moment, Dottie got called back to the phone with her son, and Mike — from Marketing — walked into our room to remind us that THEY had it booked for one o'clock and we were already five minutes late.

David quickly motioned to adjourn the meeting, I seconded the motion, a flurry of hands flew in the air, and we zoomed out of that bunker in seconds, all except one embittered chairman. Richard stood there with a puzzled look on his face. "Who seconded that motion?" he squawked after us.

I turned and watched as Mike casually sat down, looked up at him and grinned, then tapped an up-tempo Latin rhythm on that polished oak table.

................................
*Note:I dare ANYONE to write a piece about blathering and not get paranoid about blathering. lol 😂
.................................

We met for a coffee in the cafeteria after the meeting; it was 'casual Friday'.

I'm generally not patient with people who blather. Why take a hundred words to make a point if you can convey it in ten?
'Less is more.' — 1947 architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

I'm not perfect. I'll watch someone's expression for a clue that I've reached their quota on a topic in which I'm passionate. Would they tell me? 🤔 I hope so.

Perhaps it's as simple as the relationship between you and the person you're speaking with and the tolerance you expect from each other — especially with online sites like THIS one. 🤔

What are someone's chances of attracting a member of the opposite sex, if you go on and on... and on? lol 😂 😮

This describes the leadership style and meetings I endured in South Carolina. We were faulted if we were one minute late and if we dared to roll our eyes...

That's why I agreed to be president of a local club-- I HATE unnecessarily long meetings with a passion. I keep it moving until our business is done, and if people want to hang around afterwards and bullshit, that's cool.

The hardest part is telling your friends to shut up or get back on topic.

Omg, neither do I. I learned, after a while, to keep my mouth shut and not complain. Then again, I ran some of those meetings and I put myself in everyone else's shoes.
I kept looking at them wondering; Do they think I'm a blathering idiot?

I tried to keep things light. I can't imagine YOU sitting there quietly. lol 😂 😮

Oh, my, gosh... And there was no reasoning with ANY of them.
I can't see you in a meeting WITHOUT expressing your thoughts. Didja ever win one? 🤔 ❗❗😎

I could get to love casual Fridays in the cafeteria pictured. Not sure if even that would be worth the meeting beforehand though.

If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin."

I always behave. Preferably not well.

Lol... True about that. Ever hear or read about these offices going all naked? They say that it improves productivity.
I don't know about that. Lol 😂
Thanks for popping in. Hey it's almost Friday — cheers. 🍷 🍷 😎

True. If I'm in charge of the meeting, things move along quickly. But at least with friends, you can speak to them without hurting their feelings.
I get what you mean. And there are those who hang around meetings for hours after their done... been there. lol 😂

I miss our monthly meetings. They were off-site and usually catered. I think they were an excuse for us to all fuck off on the clock. Everything we covered could have been covered in a memo.

I was on the board of the local library for 3 years and the torturous meetings took 3 hours every month. I had it down to 90 minutes- 2 hours before I left but I'm sure it went back to 3 as soon as I did. Man, those people LOVED spending all that time and I just couldn't understand it.

Elevate me...

OMG... librarians. I'll bet their two cents turned into a couple of well expressed bucks when each of them was done.
Three hours, seriously? 🤔
Wow... I guess there was a bathroom break or two?
What do librarians discuss? 🤔
Just curious... 🍷🍷😎

Like people here have mentioned ; if the meeting was catered — they were tolerable.
Long-winded is another story. Ugh... I know a few of THOSE who occupied a lot of our time.
So... I'll get you could get into those casual Fridays I pictured, right? 😮 lol 😂 ❗❗😎

Without the striped shirt I was having a hard time identifying Waldo in the casual friday meeting picture... fortunately his hat gave him away!

I still remember the manager I had who would email a "pre-meeting" information sheet with multiple paragraphs and topics... and then just READ IT during the meeting!

Waldo? lol 😂... True.... I had to go back and look. 👍
Everyone has their nightmares and memorable ones to recall, right?
My favorites were those held in restaurants where we could summon the waiter for more drinks, as the presentations were being made. lol 😂
The long ones were a death sentence.
So he'd read them, huh? Good one!,, ❗ ❗ 😎
